Mentor System
Newbies come into the game every day. This game is confusing. Sure, you can go into Ascalon City dist 1 and answer questions, but one person doesn't make a significant impact on the community.
Making a guild solely for mentoring won't work*; even then, this game is too big, no one will stand out to be available for assistance.
As some may know, I was present in The Deep and Urgoz's Warren during the Elite Mission Weekend, answering questions for many people who were new to those locations. People tremendously apprexiated the assistance.
Therefore, I propose: The Mentor System
Mentors have the option to change the color of their text to a unique color in outposts (for clarity, let's say green). That way, everyone will know they are a mentor, and that they are there to help.
People apply on ArenaNet's website to be a mentor.
The job of a mentor is to answer questions and be open for answering questions. Mentors can also assist in missions.
Obviously, mentors must have a good knowledge of the game and must have somewhat decent grammar.
People who abuse mentorship (i.e. for trades) would lose it, of course.
A good team of mentors could improve the overall morale of the game.
What do you think?
*if there is enough demand for a Mentoring guild, I'll make one: PM me

A mentoring guild relies on great fame for it to be really effective.
anyway, this seems like too much work for Anet, they have put enough guides for new players to get the hang of the game, and there is also Guildwiki, a helpful resource for people who can spend 5 minutes looking for the site.
Answering questions for new players are done at the expense of that person's time, it shouldn't become something that you do on a regular basis.
Also, monitoring who is doing their job's properly puts more work for Anet, I'm sure they have better things to do, like fixs any bugs, and finish the upcoming chapter.

I think it's great that you want to help. But you can make a huge difference by helping one person at a time. It sets the tone for the game play that new player is entering and they will probably go on to help others. The classic snowball effect.

this game get's booring after a while, and honestly the most enjoyable thing for me to do in this game once it gets to that point is to help others out. Of course it's easy to just watch for people who are asking for help, but I also think this would be good idea. I would volunteer my time.

Basicly an in-game moderator with a twist?
Sounds cool but I think one character on an account should be a mentor, and there should of course be reqs. Alot of Alt-tabbing. :P

The 'Monitor' Chat would need to be able to be dis abled, cause if a moniter would want sell soemthing, and that's the only color they can type in. Lost monitor powers other wise, it'd be cool.

I think a simpler concept would be to use the existing title system where you can check on " Providing Mentorship" and it changes your Name colour to whatever and have another box where those asking for help can check on "Seeking Mentorship" changing their name to the same colour for example. I have seen such systems being applied on other MMOs before but slightly different from this suggestion.
